Day 1
My time in Luxembourg City kicked off with not such a great start. I had booked two buses to get there with a two hour long transfer in Düsseldorf.
When I got to Düsseldorf I went to the nearby train station to get a coffee because I wasn’t going to walk with my two heavy backpacks anywhere else as I thought I would. Then, an hour in advance I decided to go and sit to the bus station just to make sure I won’t miss my bus. Hahah, little did I know.
The bus station didn’t really have set platforms. The buses just got there and then left. I glancing away from my book to look at every bus that was approaching. Non of them said Luxembourg. As it was getting close to 9:05 a.m. when the bus should be leaving the station I was stressed out, standing in the middle of it. Watching the buses and my app that said the bus was on time. At 9:05 exactly, I saw one of the further away buses going round the bus station to leave. The bus I checked when it was approaching like 30 minutes beforehand that did not said Luxembourg. Now though, it did. I can see the number on the bus. 818.
I had to make a quick decision. Either I could start crying and kicking nearby things. Trash cans, other people’ suitcases. OR I could try and find a new solution. So I opened my app of any kind of transformation throughout at least Europe of what I know. It’s called Omio by the way. I found that a train with one transfer was leaving in three hours. Yes.. Three another hours. Well.. It was the cheapest and easiest option. So I bought the tickets. And got back to the train station café.
After the time had passed. I made my way to the platform. Still felt anxious I would either get on a wrong train or another disaster would happen.
I did get on the train. The first ride took around 30 minutes to Cologne. Then I had to transfer for the train to Luxembourg. Around 17 minutes to spare. I had to make it. And I fortunately did.
And you know what? „Everything bad is for something good“ as people say in my country. The views from the train were so awesome. We rode so long along the Rhine River and let me tell you.. At times I felt like in a medieval movie because of the beautiful building next to it.
If I’d made that bus, I’d be in Luxembourg City around 1 p. m. As I finally got off the train, it was 6 p. m.
I didn’t know the city at all. I did some research. But it didn’t say how steep the hills in the city were. I had around 20 kgs of luggage strapped to my back. And my google maps were showing 30 minutes of going up and down the difference of 60 meters in altitude. And the heat wave was getting stronger and stronger so now it was around 33 degrees Celsius. And trust me that is a lot. My kind of temperature is like 22 degrees. A bit higher than that and I’m dying.
When I finally got to my hostel the first thing I did was lock my belongings into a locker and head for the shower. Then my intentions were clear. Get into bed and do not get out for at least 12 hours. But then I thought of where I am and what am I here for. So I decided to go to at least a grocery store to buy some stuff to get me from starving and to have a little snack for the next day.
Because Luxembourg City is quite small (just like the whole country, who would have thought righ?) I still had to go downtown to get the groceries. And it turned out to be a very nice walk. Again. I felt like in a movie. Or rather a fairytale.
Day 2
I had a few ideas of plans to do. The Casemates du Bock were probably the only attraction that I wanted to visit. And then to just walk around the city, to find a park and enjoy some local coffee.
So after my breakfast in the downtown café I headed to the Casemates. You get a very nice view of most of the city. And it was very comfy because of the heat outside.
Then I went to my hostel for a shower and afterwards headed to go and look for a place to crash for the afternoon. I decided to visit a park where I had some food I called lunch. I honestly didn’t do much in this city just because I’ve walked through most of it on my first day. So in the evening I went for another walk downtown and got another coffee that I went to enjoy to the Monument of Remembrance. And there was also a very nice view of the Musée de la banque. So you know. I was just enjoying my time in there.
Day 3
Day three in all the cities was a traveling day. I had to go to a bus station to get on a bus to my next location. This time Brussels. I betrayed my thought of walking everywhere and hopped on a public transport bus. And then just waited. And if you’re wondering. Yes.. I made it hahahah.
