I’ve been trying to live as traceless towards the Earth as possible for the past year now. I’m definitely not one of those perfect zerowasters, but I do my best.
And as trying to be more aware, one of the biggest industries I want to avoid on this planet is fast fashion. All these clothing items you wear for a few months that later fall apart. Made with chemicals by people who do not even get a glintch of the price that it actually costs. And let me say that it is not cheap for what it is. I just don’t like that. So what do you do when you don’t like something? Avoid supporting it.
Obviously though, I wanted to find an alternative. To still be able to get „new“ clothes but also reduce the waste that we put out into the wild, and to not support the fast fashion industry. And the way to go for me, and lately for many other people (yay!), is thrift shopping.
Around that time I found out about quite new pop-up thrift store that I started visiting every month or so with my friend. And since then I can proudly say I have not bought one thing from a fast fashion store.
And to be honest, before I just wore the most basic pieces, not really caring that I’m wearing all black all day every day. And since I started shopping at random thrift stores, my closet got a new look to itself. New colors, textures and everything.
So any final thoughts on thrift shopping? Go ahead and try it. You’ll fall in love with the process of thrifting and you’ll save money. AND, most importantly, you will help the environment.
